In the episode, a look back discloses that fan-favorite personality Alastor the Radio Demon was a serial killer in his human life. Knowing full well he was headed to the underworld, he made contact with the afterlife in advance to obtain a strong position there. Rosie, the charismatic leader the cannibal faction in Hell, vowed Alastor he would become “the strongest Sinner in Hell” in exchange for his soul.

This raises the question: In what way is this character sufficiently strong to elevate Alastor over every other Sinner Demons?

“The Rosie and Alastor deal is the initial building block in a much bigger story that involves so much, leading into the third season,” the showrunner explains. “Obviously that is a perfect question: How is she that powerful? The solution could be many things, but the answer is in season 3. I'm very excited for fans to see it.”

There’s no telling the duration viewers will have to wait for Hazbin Hotel’s third season. The studios have approved the third and fourth seasons, but the showrunner frequently remarks that animated production is a slow, lengthy process, and subsequent seasons are undated. Nevertheless, she says holding off on those details is a crucial aspect of keeping the second season's focus in the right places.

“The difficulty of any agreement with infernal beings, or narratives that have mysteries, is providing people just enough information to be like, Something's up here, and then unveiling that as we go, and allowing that be gratifying,” she says. “So I am quite eager.”

Questions Answered in The Next Season

The creator assures that season 3 will tackle the queries followers have been asking, like why Rosie commanded Alastor to disappear for seven years, which diminished his power in Hell.

“The whole seven years, and the deals these individuals are doing, and everything — it's feeding into a larger story,” she reveals.

In the meantime, the Rosie/Alastor backstory episode offers a further look into how the main characters of Sinner Demons appeared as as humans, following after viewing another character's Victorian-era human form in the second episode. She says that significant consideration went into these character designs.

“The mortal forms of these personas hold great significance,” she says. “They vary from looking quite distinct from their infernal version to seeming very similar. With the first character, the first one we see, there was some internal discussion internally between going with something that symbolizes the personality, versus going with an option that's historically correct. We opted for making something that just felt like it was him.”

She mentions the biggest debate over the mortal look of Pentious was his long hair: “We were like, ‘No one typically had long hair like that in that historical period.’ But at the same time, we think the silhouette is so important, and we also just felt he looked good. We were like, ‘This just feels right.’ We sort of gave the excuse that he lived in seclusion, so he just let his hair grow out. So there's always a way. As we create the human versions of these characters […] it is a very enjoyable process to investigate and determine. I'm excited for people to view additional of what the human forms look like.”
